New Chapter

Well, Yvette is gone. This past Saturday I dropped my motorcycle off in Tallahasee. It has been sold. I did well on it. I figure the whole experience of having a motorcycle with tires, service, parts, accessories, and a speeding ticket probably only cost me a total of $1,000 after I have sold everything. That’s pretty good I think for enjoying something for over 3 years. That’s a little less than a $1 a day. I tried to show as many people how to ride on it as I could. I just really wanted everybody to enjoy it as much as me. It was a sad day, but I had my fun and now it’s done.

December/November Update:
December and November were quite the busy months, as I’m sure they were for everyone. Sam and I went and did a quick run through of 2 Disney Parks (Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom) around Thanksgiving to get into the Christmas spirit. We even enjoyed an awesome dinner in Germany within Epcot.

Movember! Jacksonville kicked some booty in Movember this year. We raised over $14,000 and worldwide the organization brought in over $60,000,000. YeeehaW

Movember - Jacksonville - Before and After

New Years though took the cake for good times. Exhausting, but good. My friend Jon, his fiance Dominique, her sister and husband, and Sam and I all met up at Epcot around 3:00 in the afternoon New Years Eve. It was the busiest I had ever seen the parks. They closed Magic Kingdom at around 10:00 am due to capacity. They wouldn’t even let you park at the transportation and ticket center or take the monorail from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom.

Well on to a new chapter and a new year.

This Just In: This Blog Has Been Updated

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated, but here we are.

September:

This was a great month for work. Adecco (Modis) has made me permanent at the company. Now I get benefits and healthcare….wooo! It has been a few years on the healthcare, but my mom is hyped about it.

I have cut my hours at Dos Gatos to only working ArtWalk. I love this job, but the late hours were killing me. J and Joy really have been some of the most understanding/awesome bosses I’ve ever worked with and J taught me quite a bit about the inner workings of a bar and I bet I barely scratched the surface. J if you happen to read this, thank you for giving me the chance to work for you and Joy. I truly appreciate it.

On another note, women think chivalry is dead, but I think a general respect for your fellow man/woman is just in the gutter now-a-days. Especially in respects to the bro code….read it….live by it. No one ever went wrong by giving somebody respect. It’s kind of like not drinking (J don’t read this): No one has ever said man I was so sober last night that me and my buddy got into a fight, spent a night in jail, and I have the worst headache!

October:

This week I might be going to Vampire Weekend with Beach House opening for them, but I will def. be seeing the Flaming Lips on Friday at the St. Augustine Amphitheater though with my very amazing woman. Please see picture above for an amazing shot of what’s to come.

From the evening of 20th until late the 24th will be my Smoky Trip Do Over. It’s going to be cold, but I can’t wait. I’m scared, nervous and excited all at once. I bought the “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” , the 1974 philosophical novel, to keep me company. If you don’t know anything about the book it’s not what it seems.

The next week for Halloween I will be visiting my little sister up in Brooklyn. I’m very excited to see my sister operating on her own and for her and I to get some time together. It’s been way too long. She has a speakeasy she wants to take me too…..way to go sis!

Upcoming November:
Movember starts Nov. 1 with the Shaving Party at Dos Gatos. Get your baby face on and let your upper lip know it won’t be cold for too long….there’s a stache on its way. This is the same event I did last year as well to help raise money for prostate and testicular cancer. Join me!

Later that month I will be running Thanksgiving Outback Classic Half Marathon and will be volunteering with Sam at a soup kitchen (not sure which one) later that day…..

It should all be a great time. I have to say this has easily been a great year and appreciate all my friends for helping make it happen.

And Now it is Finished!

So it has been a long time since I’ve had a chance to update, but here it goes.

It’s been 2 months and here is the run down:

November:

December:

Cruise (pictures to come) – Super awesome, but the ocean was angry my friends.

Christmas (no pictures, but was awesome) – My first Colombian Christmas. They celebrate on Christmas Eve at midnight with a ton of food and drinks and a big sleep over with family and friends.

New years: Partied downtown with my b.e.a.utiful lady downtown at the landing with all my buds.

January:

The big January has arrived. The Disney Marathon I had been training for since September finally arrived. I was super slow. I wanted 4 hours, but ended with 5:12. I just wasn’t expecting what was to come. I first only trained up to 17 miles, the race is 26.2. It started at 5:30 a.m. at Epcot and runs through all 4 parks, but with 10-15,000 people trying to get to the park at once I had to be up at 3:30 and head to the park by 4:00. I barely made the start and it was only a :15 min drive. The traffic was a mad house. The weather was 17 degrees out that morning, but for the half marathon the day before there was snow and sleet. Ouch!

The day before the race though I had a great idea to dress like Mickey for the run. I don’t know if I would of finished if I wouldn’t of dressed up. So many people were screaming “Go Mickey!!!!” and little kids were like “LOOK!!!!”. It was pretty awesome. Thanks Mr. Mouse.

Jessie made my shorts and then surprised me by picking me up at the finish line dressed like Minnie. She’s such a cutie. (pics to come of us together. Camera needs to be developed…old school).

Lastly was the “Race 5 to keep kids alive” this past weekend at Treaty Oak and then throughout the bridges. It was fun and I was proud of my time. It was a total last minute race. If you don’t believe look at my race number! Literally I paid my entrance fee with 10 min. before start. I had just come from the Pancake House after eating…pancakes and I felt so terrible afterwards, but it helps children.

It’s a terrible picture and looks kind of flamboyant (not that there’s anything wrong with that),  but it’s the only one I have.

Two Shows I Really Want To See….Join me?

I’ve always wanted to see a show at Cafe Eleven in St. Augustine. It just seems like a great venue with a cool group of people who support them.

I missed two shows last year that I’m really kicking myself for, Vampire Weekend and Against Me! Now is the time to redeem myself. I plan on seeing Junior Boys in October and Elvis Perkins in November.

I have found that October-November are the months to catch good shows in North Florida. Last year I got a chance to see The Faint w/ The Show’s the Rainbow and then followed it up the next day with some Portugal. The Man.

Junior Boys 10/27 $12

Elvis Perkins in Deerland 11/6 $10 –

There is another show I would love to go see, but I’m not sure I can make it out. I had never heard of them until I saw this YouTube video on the Cafe Eleven website, BLK JKS. I could listen to this all day and I can’t figure out what it reminds me of, but I love it.

Last Night Adventures

What do I normally do on Tuesday….nada…

but this weeks Tuesday was action packed. A couple of buddies and I headed over to Brewster’s Pub and The Pit for some PBR and metal.

We missed the first band downfall, but it didn’t matter. We were there to see one of our favorite local bands, Snore. Their songs Thin and Geronimo are quite good. They label themselves as Grime, Experimental, and Alternative. I label them as a new beginning of rock. The show was great…way to go to guys.

The next band was, Philler out of Daytona Beach. I like marketing and I can appreciate gimmicks, but I hate it in the music industry. This band is extremely gimmicky with matching outfits, singing through a bullhorn, make-up, extreme hair….picture Orgy without Blue Monday. Anyway…they were decent, but I think they would of been better without all the hype.

My crew and I then headed over to the wonderful Steamworks in 5 points for a meeting of the beards with The Jacksonville Beardsmith Society. It’s a local chapter of Beard Team USA. It’s really just a reason for us to grow beards and drink beer! You can follow us on all of our sites:

Slip and Slides….What else should a club have? Part 2

About 1 year ago it was a very sad time for me. I was very excited about an event that we throw at the club that I work at, TSI (www.clubtsi.com), but we were shutdown the day before 😦

Well it’s that time again for Slip and Slides and baby pools……June 20th…..OH I’m excited!!!!! And we are open!!!!!!!

Portugal. The Man, Earl Greyhound, Wintersleep Jacksonville Florida 10/24/08

It’s been about a week and half since I went to this show, but I finally have a chance to do a write up on it. I was originally super siked about this show. My sister introduced me to this band close to 2 years ago. Once I found out they were coming…it was on. Off I went and bought two tickets for my little sister and I to go hang. Well she bailed 30 min. before the show….way to drop the ball little lady. Sad…that’s what I was. My friend Christina ended up coming through for me and keeping me company for the evening. Thanks Christina!

Jack Rabbits is the little venue that hosted these fine bands. It’s a typically small venue. It has a pool table, a couple arcade games, a bar, and of course a small stage. Most of the bands equipment is set off to the side of the stage and next to the bathrooms (this is just to give you an idea of how small the place is). The employees are cool, and most of the patrons are just there for a good time and not to cause trouble.

Wintersleep Jacksonville Florida Jack Rabbits 2008

Wintersleep was the first of the three to go on. I didn’t know anything about the band…and sadly I don’t remember much about them. I do remember enjoying them and no point was going….oh God! just end it already.

Earl Greyhound Jacksonville Florida Jack Rabbits 2008

Earl Greyhound Jacksonville Florida Jack Rabbits 2008

Earl Greyhound was an awesome surprise. I really didn’t think I was going to like them, but they were great. I consider them a throwback to the amazing days of 60-70’s rock. I would say the front man is great, but there isn’t one. All three characters in the band all have their own presence without taking away from each other. The woman that plays with them stands out, but I think it’s only because of the other two on stage and vice versa for them. The drummer is animated and fun as hell to watch, as is the lead guitarist. If you have a chance to see these guys…just go for it.

Portugal. The Man Jacksonville Florida Jack Rabbits 2008

Portugal. The Man Jacksonville Florida Jack Rabbits 2008

Oh…Portugal. The Man got all setup. The first thing they did was cut the lights and setup a color globe in the middle of the stage. I figured this was to help establish a theme for their new album, Censored Colors. I have never seen this band. I have been listening to them for almost 2 years, but really never knew much about them outside of their CD’s. They seem to be a young group of guys who just enjoy playing. They all work really well together and the main front man
John Baldwin Gourley liked to interact with all of them. Their bassist, Zachary Scott Carothers, was great as well. He was really into the show and got the crowd pumped up! Ryan Neighbors, their keyboard, percussion, backing vocals, was all over the place. He was just itching to get up and go wild. John Gourley almost seemed to laugh at him at times by how excited Mr. Neighbors would get on the keyboard.

In the end it was great show. All the bands were excellent and everything seemed to go as planned….Great Job Fellas. Thanks for a great evening!

Jacksonville Florida is Going To ROCK!

Two of my favorite bands are coming to town next week…and guess who’s going to tear it up…ME!

The Faint and Portugal. The Man are playing in Jacksonville one day apart on the 10/23/08 and 10/24/08. Super excited is I.

Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man

I have never seen Portugal. The Man live, but I heard it’s a great show. I can listen to their CD all day so I’m sure the show will be great. They’re playing at the cool little venue Jack Rabbits located in San Marco off of Hendricks. Check out the venue site for tickets. My little sister is the one who got me into this group. It’s so different from anything else I used to listened to, but absolutely loved it. I would almost compare it to a Radio Head or Cursive.

The Faint Jacksonville Florida

The Faint Jacksonville Florida

Now The Faint on the hand is hands down the best show I have seen. They opened for Bright Eyes‘ tour Digital Ash in a Digital Ern about 3 years ago. The crowd was going off!…wooo…I’m so excited.

COME OUT for a great time!!!!!

Slip and Slides….What else should a club have?

Wet Hot American Summer - TSIThis Saturday, June 28, is the 3rd annual “Wet Hot American Summer” bash at the bar/club that I work at, TSI. This is a party that we throw every year based on the movie,”Wet Hot American Summer“. Good name for the party right. Well,  super excited is what I am. Friends and I just finished building a lifeguard chair to sit in and check ID’s. The chair is stable and the brightest orange you can find. We are going to have slip and slides, kiddie pools, beer, champagne, short shorts, and a whole mess of 1981 memorabilia If you are out and about in Jacksonille on Saturday stop and we’ll take care of you.
